Disana wool is so beautiful! Disana wool often works even for people with sensitivities to other wool. Made of soft organic pure wool, the overpants hold all excess wetness within the inner fibres if the wool. Elasticated ribbing round the legs and waist provide a comfortable yet secure fit. Because of the self-cleansing properties of wool, the pants only require washing if they become soiled or less watertight. When merely damp, the woollen overpants clean themselves by being dried in the air.
Along with environmental consciousness has come interest in some amazing qualities of wool. Wool is one of the best fibers for wicking away moisture that you can use. As it absorbs moisture, it carries it away from the skin, and provides insulation against both cold and heat, which makes it not only comfortable but also less likely to foster conditions for diaper or other rashes. Wool knits are also stretchy, soil resistant, and anti-bacterial; plus, the lanolin contained in wool can provide some water repellency. All of these factors combine to make knitted wool diaper covers (or “soakers”) once again popular with many young families.

You can partially felt the Disana diaper covers (optional) First try the cover on the baby to be sure you have an inch so to work with in the rise. Felting the cover means the wool fibers pull together and shrink the cover, but luckily you can stop the shrinking at any point by simply removing the cover from the dryer. Wash the cover in a sink of warm water with a lanolin shampoo and then squeeze it out a little to the point where it's not dripping too much. Put the damp cover in the dryer on hot temperature with a dry cotton bed sheet (any size) and check on it every few minutes until it's the size you want (usually about 10-20 minutes). Wool gets even softer and more fluffy feeling with the felting also, which is a nice bonus! These are merino wool so they are soft even before felting.
These covers provide a watertight outer covering for the diaper. Made from soft, pure sheep's wool, it absorbs without itself ever becoming wet.
Care of Wool
Caring for wool is very different from cotton. Wool fibers originate from animals, which have a structure very similar to human hair. Their delicate nature makes them sensitive to heat and excessive wear and tear. For this reason, products made out of wool must be hand-washed. Pure wool contains high natural oil content, called lanolin. It protects the wool from soiling. Thus, our wool diaper covers do not have to be washed after each use. If a cover is damp, it often suffices to hang it out to dry on a clothes line. However, if a wool item requires washing, it must be handled with care. The best way is to use a wash basin filled with lukewarm water no hotter than 77F (25C). Use a mild soap, for example our disana wool shampoo. Place the items in the water and gently swish and swirl, making sure not to rub the material together. Directly after washing rinse thoroughly in a basin filled with clean lukewarm water. Then squeeze out excess water and air dry. Do not place in the sun or on heaters.
