Tiny Birds organic colorgrown diapers are pure and soft, organically grown, and free of bleach and man-made dyes. The diapers are minimally processed and they may require 10+ washes, to remove the natural oils from the cotton to make them absorbent. Once they finally absorb, they are extremely absorbent! Tide-powder on a hot-cycle strips the natural-oils the fastest (usually within about 5 washes), so if you use natural detergent, boiling may be the only way to strip the natural oils.
Note from a customer: "My friend boiled her colorgrown diapers for 15 minutes, and they still weren't absorbent. This echos my experience with the flat diapers. I had to boil for 20 minutes, wash with soap, boil again, and wash again. My diapers were finally absorbent after that. But it was worth it."
An added benefit is that they hide stains very well too! Click on the image for a larger view.
Customer comments: "I am using the organic prefold on my son today and I just love it! It is so incredibly soft! I will be sure to get a few more. Thanks for offering something different, something organic, something special."
"I got the brown diaper today, boy it's going to be hard not to order at least 12 of these, I just love them."
"I just took the prefolds out of the box and they are amazing. I have never felt anything so soft and luxurious. And so beautiful."

Colorgrown fabric/yarn does not cause any of our white clothes or diapers to turn off-white due to washing them together, so please don't worry if you see the wash-water turn a light color from the colorgrown fabric. If you wash the diapers in the machine, the water will likely be pretty clear because of the quantity of water used, but for sink-washing or boiling on the stove, the water may become discolored from the colorgrown cotton as shown in the boiling test results above. You can also read about other natural methods of obtaining color for clothing on my natural dyes page. Man-made dyes can be very damaging to the environment especially when cotton is dyed in other countries without regulation of discharge for wastewater. Streams are often heavily polluted in developing countries, so buying undyed or colorgrown products will help with this unfortunate situation.
